Donate Fundraise Please Help Us Try To Save Baby Elsie's Eyes Our gorgeous baby girl Elsie is just 6 weeks old and came to YCR wit her mummy Eliza and sister Evie... after they were found abandoned in a cardboard box down a snicket. Thankfully they were found and brought into our care but we sadly lost baby Evie shortly after. They have a horrendous case of cat flu that had been left to fester and poor Elsie's eyes have suffered the consequences. She was in so much pain that we considered putting this poor baby to sleep as we couldn't keep her pain under control. We knew removing her eyes would ease her suffering but as she is so tiny and weak... a lot of vets felt uncomfortable performing the surgery as there was high chance she wouldn't make it and many contemplated the ethics of leaving Elsie blind. We contemplated our options and decided that we could not let this poor girl lose her life without at least trying to save her, so we pushed for further testing with vets who had more experience specifically with eyes. We managed to get Elsie seen by an Ophthalmologist who put her under anaesthetic to take a proper look at her eyes. This was risky as we didn't know if she could handle going under... but her alternative was to be put to sleep so we felt like we had nothing to lose. After putting Elsie under and thoroughly cleaning out her eyes they discovered that they didn't think Elsie's eye was fully ruptured.... they believed it was just a partial rupture and there is a chance that her eyes could be saved....!!!! Her other eye does have severe scarring but again under further inspection the Ophthalmologist believes that there is partial sight there... so at this stage they don't feel it's right to take Elsie's eyes out without trying to save them! Of course our main concern was if Elsie would be in too much pain to keep on trying, but the vets have managed to get her pain under control with some very strong pain relief, so if she's comfortable enough to keep fighting then of course this is what we'll do! She will be staying in Intensive Care for a week while the vets give her multiple different eye drops and medications daily to see if theres any improvement. If they're able to keep on top of her infection there is the chance that we could save some of Elsie's sight and she wouldn't be fully blind in the future. We are so glad we pushed for further treatment and didn't put this girl to sleep...but her treatment will not be cheap. A week of intensive care on top of the treatment she's already had will be very costly but we had to give this girl very fighting chance. We are asking for any help you can offer towards Elsie's treatment so we can afford to try and save her eyes. Lots of littles make a lot and could make all the difference towards Elsie's future. If there is any chance that we could give this girl a life with even a little bit of sight and we think that's worth fighting for. Thank you so much in advance for your support and helping us to keep this baby girl comfortable and cared for. It means the world to us and we could not do with without you all.
