Emergency Funds Needed 16 Multi Cat Kittens

‼️Emergency Funds Needed ‼️ 16 Multi Cat/Kitten Intake‼️

Lynn here…… we desperately need your help, I’m so sorry we have to ask again but we are desperate after yesterday’s rescue!

Yesterday I was on a rare day off and was contacted about a situation where some cats had been left behind in a property for around 5 weeks.

Nobody had been able to gain entry into the property, we were told by residents that they had contacted the RSPCA, police, council and a landlord but the cats were still in the property without food or water.

I went to have a look at the situation, planning to get local authorities involved if needed to gain access and to assess the situation, but didn’t think I would be doing a rescue alone without my team.

When i arrived Homeward Hounds Rescue had managed to squeeze through a window and opened the back door. However as they were a dog rescue they were unable to assist with the cats directly, but I’m so grateful they were able to access the property so I could get in.

The smell was horrific from the outside so I knew it was going to be bad inside 💔
The moment I walked in I knew all the cats would need to be removed immediately and some needed emergency life or death veterinary care 💔

There were kittens with their eyes sealed shut from infection, faeces all over the floors, rotten rubbish in bags, household goods ….. it was filthy!

Thankfully I had taken food and water that I had planned to put through the letter box, thinking i couldn’t get inside the property at that time.

Emma from K9 - SAR also arrived has she had been messaged too about the situation.

We used the food i had taken and attempted to fill a bowl with water, the adult cats swarmed the sink trying to drink from under the tap before I could even fill the bowl! These poor babies were so dehydrated and had clearly not had a drink for some time 😭

Emma was emptying packets of the wet food onto the surfaces for them all to eat 💔 it was truly heartbreaking to see the cats so desperate 😭😭

Homeward Hounds Rescue helped gather the kittens for me before they left and they were secured in a carrier I had on my car.

Three tiny kittens with horrific eyes that were the worst were secured in a small carrier I found outside the house. The smallest kitten ( we called Baby Bean ) was hardly able to keep his head up and I knew he needed urgent veterinary care, fluids and goodness knows what else.

I had to make a plan quickly off the cuff as i knew i needed to remove all the cats, but by myself and only having limited carriers and only Emma with me it was going to be hard to sort things out.

I rang the centre and we were able to move 2 cats from our small block that have been unaffected by the new strain of cat flu, into emergency foster homes within an hour, so we could use this block for the cats in the house.

Myself and Emma approached a few local residents to see if we could get enough cat carriers so that i could remove all the cats in one go rather than doing a 3 hour round trip to get the kittens to the vets and then go back for the adults!

A lovely neighbour offered me is dog crate, it wasn’t ideal but we needed to remove the adults right away. We carried the crate over the fence to get round to the back door and took it inside the property, catching the adults and popping them into the crate together. In total we found 8 adults, some of which are pregnant and very skinny 💔

I did get bitten but only because a young female was petrified and there was a lot going on, so I forgave her instantly!

After tentatively carrying the dog crate across an overgrown garden, over a fence and to the car myself and Emma were completely done in!

The stench from the house was all over us, we were sweating and exhausted but we had done it!! They were all safe! Emma is going back today to make sure we didn’t miss anyone, while I’m at the centre with my team sorting the cats out.

8 adults ….. some pregnant
5 older kittens ….. with sore eyes
3 tiny kittens ….. that were desperately in need veterinary care and I thought were critical

They were all starving and dehydrated! I’ve never seen cats drink so much water 😭

I rushed to the vets and all 8 kittens were admitted! The 3 tiny ones were critical, especially the little ginger boy we named Baby Bean.

I then drove the 8 adults to YCR where Chloe one of the CCA’s had come in on her day off to set the block up ready for the emergency cats…. Can I just say Chloe gets the keys to her house today after waiting 7 months to move in and was actually out shopping with her partner for their house. She dropped everything to come in for these cats, knowing how serious this situation was!

Once everyone was sorted i went to the hospital to get treatment for my bite and waited to hear from the vets about the kittens.

The 5 bigger kittens all have upper respiratory infections and need eye drops for their infections.

The 3 smaller kittens have really bad eye infections but the vets said with treatment they believed their eyes could be saved.

Baby Bean however wasn’t doing too well, he was unable to maintain his body temperature and needed to be incubated, at this point all we could do was hope for the best, but we were worried his organs had started to shut down and we may have been too late 💔💔

The biggest risk to all the cats and kittens is that they have been dehydrated for so long 💔

We expect we will need to do bloods and goodness knows what with all these cats to make sure their organs have not been affected by being neglected for so long!

Due to the sheer amount of sick, injured and now this 16 cat/kitten rescue, we desperately need funds for our vet bills that we estimate will be around £30,000 this month and good quality food for the sick kittens and pregnant mummy’s.

I’m sorry we have to ask again, but we just can’t do this without your support.
