Parvovirus Outbreak Emergency Appeal Donate Fundraise With heavy hearts and an urgent plea for help, we need your support once again......... . . As you know, we have been battling Feline Parvovirus at the centre for the last 4 weeks and we have had to close our doors completely. What Is Parvovirus? Parvovirus is a highly contagious and fatal virus that affects cats, particularly kittens. It attacks the gastrointestinal tract, leading to severe dehydration, vomiting, diarrhea, anaemia and a weakened immune system. Why do we need your help? While our team has been battling away, scrubbing the centre daily and trying to protect the cats on site the costs have been rising. Right now, we are facing an overwhelming challenge, with over £14,000 in Parvovirus vet bills alone in the last few weeks and having to spend over £5500 on essential items the outgoing costs just keep rising. Several cats and kittens have been diagnosed with parvovirus over the last 4 weeks, urgent and ongoing vet care has been needed to help support them. Unfortunately we have lost far more babies than we had hoped for, the ones that are still with us are fighting for their lives at the vets and we could still have more cases in the coming weeks that will also need urgent vet care. Little Curly is currently in the vets and has been for over a week, he is on supportive care and we have had to give him a blood transfusion to try and save him as his PCV had dropped from 25 to 9, without a transfusion he would have died. We are hoping that we can give his body enough time to fight the virus but it really is touch and go with every case. This kind of treatment and around the clock critical supportive care costs a lot! We never give up unless it's in the cat or kittens best interests, last weekend we had to let baby Freddo go over the bridge as he just became too weak........ but we have seen Boo and a few others return to us after having critical around the clock care at the vets to help support them through the virus...... we have to give them the best chance we can. The cost of veterinary care for our vulnerable and sick babies is soaring. Without your help we fear that we won’t be able to continue to give them all the chance they so desperately need to get them through this virus, simply because our bills are spiralling out of control. The vet bills are mounting rapidly for urgent care and have exceeded £14,000 already, this includes things like: Emergency veterinary consultations IV fluids for dehydration Medications to combat infections and control symptoms Intensive care for critical cases Blood transfusions We’ve also spent over £5500 on many essential supplies, including .... PPE (personal protective equipment) £850 Specialist cleaning materials £1255 Snap tests £805.50 Air bombs ( Airgene ) £1104.64 These supplies are needed to try and safeguard as many cats and kittens on site from this horrific virus and prevent further spreading at the centre. Expenses like these have been crucial to ensuring the containment of the virus. However all of these costs were unforeseen and have placed a significant strain on our limited resources in one of the busiest years we have ever had. The costs for emergency, critical care and supplies is far more than we can manage alone. Yorkshire Cat Rescue relies on the kindness and compassion of our supporters, we need every penny you can donate to help us to continue to fight this virus and protect the cats and kittens in our care..... How Your Donation Will Help: Your donation will help fund the emergency veterinary treatment of our cats and kittens currently in critical care, both now and if any immediate cases arise in the coming weeks. It will also help us to continue to buy the supplies we need to contain and eradicate the virus from the centre in the coming weeks so that we can reopen. The team are weary, both physically and mentally, but they are continuing to fight for every single life! Help them to keep protecting as many lives as they can and supporting the sick babies by donating to our appeal. Thank you for always supporting us and the cats and kittens in our care! The Girls really couldn't do what they do, without your love, support and donations in situations like this. From all of us at YCR ........ THANK YOU! Manage Cookie Preferences
