Volunteering vacancies

Administration

We would like some computer-literate volunteers who are able to spend approximately half a day each week inputting data and undertaking other admin-based tasks.  We could ask you to check information, issue letters and update owner details.  Much of the work is the same thing over and over, but it is essential and really helps our cats (and staff!)

Telephone answering

We also require volunteers to join our rota to answer our phone to general enquiries.  You will need to be confident on the phone and comfortable using computers.  At the moment we mostly need people in the afternoons, but we also require volunteers for weekend mornings, and we are hoping to increase the times we answer the phones to include mornings.  We normally ask telephone volunteers to volunteer for a three hour shift – 1pm-4pm or (weekends) 10am-1pm.  Full training will be given.

Cat socialising

We place great importance on the socialisation of the cats at our centre – it enables them to settle quickly, which in turn improves their chances of being adopted.  Cat socialisers spend time with cats, particularly those who are nervous.  Cat socialisation may involve playing with the cats, or simply sitting in their pens – and sometimes ignoring them altogether – to get them used to the presence of humans.

Cleaning and tidying

Our pens need cleaning daily and once the cat has been rehomed, the pen needs a “deep clean” – a thorough disinfect, ready for the next one.  This is hard work, but essential for the cats and kittens here at the centre.  We also require volunteers to clean equipment and to keep the storage areas tidy and clean.  There is never a shortage of other tasks such as loading and unloading the dishwasher and washing machine.

Cat feeding

We have a rota for feeding at breakfast and at teatime. We feed the cats between 8.30am-10am and between 4pm-6pm.  You may also have to give medication to certain cats.  This rota can be flexible, so may suit volunteers who work shifts, but it is very important that people who volunteer for this role are able to guarantee that they can come, or the cats may go hungry 🙁
